charming? I don't remember being "charmed" by the original. Many words come to mind when I think about the original film... "charming" isn't one of them. When I think of "charming," I think of a certain cereal and a certain Leprechaun.
Well, as I remember, the Leprechaun is in the original. I believe you remarked, "how charming!"
